Overview

Ironbark is a modelling and simulation software suite developed to provide accurate flight simulations for all our projects. The suite is named after the native Australian Eucalyptus species, Ironbark, and has been integral to many projects, including Firetail, Bluewren, Rosella, and Pardalote.

Project Details

Ironbark began development in 2021 as a software project led by PhD student Mitchell Galletly, with a core focus on transonic and supersonic modelling. It was further developed to address shortcomings in commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software, resulting in a versatile tool tailored to specific project requirements. Ironbark has since contributed significantly to the team’s repeated successes at the International Rocket Engineering Competition and Spaceport America Cup.

Project Director

“Ironbark is a necessity to enable all future rockets to win. Born from the work of PhD student Mitchel Galletley, Ironbark is built to surpass all public solutions on sounding rockets and is inherited from project to project.”
